Sponge Filter

How Does It Work?

Sponge filter uses bubbles of air from an external air pump, or an integral water pump to draw water through the sponge.

What Maintenance Does It Require?

The sponge need to be rinsed about every 2 to 4 weeks. It’s helpful to wash the sponge gently with water from the fish tank instead of tap water.

It is good to replace the sponge after 3 to 6 months’ usage as the holes of sponge is gradually clogged by the tiny debris.

Key Features Sponge filter provide both mechanical and bio filtration Easy to set up & clean Safe for fish as the filter produces minimal current

Great filter, pair with good airflow
Great function for a great price! I recommend at least a 3watt air pump to run one of these, more the better! If you have a 3D printer you can print a splash guard for the bubbles! I’m mainly using these in 5 gallon buckets to raise mystery snails, but I’m also running some 10gallons with 1 each and they work great! This review is for the large size. However, I also rate the small a 5/5 as those work perfect for nano tanks and in totes for raising fish fry in!Whenever I set up a new tank/bucket I put one of these filters in, run it for a bit in treated water, and then I will swap one of the sponges out with one from a cycled tank using the same style sponge filters. This helps a ton starting the new tanks as it introduces beneficials straight to the filter. Also with these filters compared to the circular ones that have the weight on the bottom, you can put them in tanks without worry of crushing anything, sometimes with the circular styles I’ll crush a snail or a shrimp when setting them back in the tank since they have the weighted bottom (which isn’t a flaw or anything in those, it’s just a perk I noticed with these)

Perfect to use as only filtration or in addition to another type of filtration
I have been using these sponge filters in various tanks for the past 5 years or so. I originally started my tanks with Hang-on-back filtration systems and was tired of wasting money on the filter cartridges that needed to be replaced several times a month. I did my research and found these on Amazon being sold by many different sellers. This seller had them for the best price and still does.Just what I needed when raising fry cichlids and for my betta tank. I’ve also used these for additional filtration for my goldfish tanks. The unit secures easily on the glass of the tank with the 2 suction cups. Hook up your air tube from your air pump and voila… your filtration is working. Every 2 weeks clean the sponges when you are cleaning your tank or doing a water change. Using the water you have syphoned out of your tank into a bucket or dish pan (you use solely for your fish) gently roll a sponge between your hands and then squeeze the water in and out of the sponge. Then replace back into your tank. These will last 6 months to a year or MORE depending on your tanks and number of fish you have. After many months the suction cups start to loose their suction power and you might find it has come away from your glass… to me it’s not a huge deal ‘cuz I just stick it back on the glass and it’ll hold for a bit longer.P.S. These are perfect to use with a Rechargeable Battery Powered Air Pump in case there is a power outage… glad I have it! I use the AquaMiracle brand and works great.

    Neat
Bought the 4 pack of small filters. Great for the value. Not aesthetic, but work well. Quieter than those sponge filters that stay on the ground.Only concern for others; a stronger, small fish may be able to go through the outlet, even with air going.

    These filters do their job
I find these very effective and a effective way of keeping good bacteria in the aquarium. They are a decent size and can provide filtration for bigger tanks. Mine is a 29 gallon and these work well along with my canister filter. The suction cups keep them in place and they don’t move around easily. The arms holding the sponges can be adjusted and rotated 360 degrees, thing I’m not a fan off because I find myself having to readjust them after each cleaning. Barely noticeable on a black background. The sponges seem to be durable and I don’t see myself needing replacements anytime soon. I usually rinse the sponges every 2-3 months in a bucket with aquarium water and are ready to go back in. Unless they will fall apart, I don’t see a reason to change them for a new pair.

    No complaints!
I love these, they work great, they’re easy to clean, and they’re easy to set up.The auctions cups sometimes come lose, but that’s with any sponge filter like this. Because of their design I just add weights to sink it and it’s a non issue.

Great and efficient filters for smaller tanks
These are great and don’t take up a lot of real estate in the tank. I combined them with the four-outlet pump from the same company and very satisfied with the performance so far.

    WILL BUY AGAIN!
If you’re someone who hates having those massive sponge filters taking up space and collecting gunk and poop this filter is for you!.It does an amazing job at suctioning and collecting any waste particles that are floating in your fish tank..Yesterday I bought fresh sand, and even though I tried to rinse it well to remove sand dust, it still polluted the water. But within 12 hours, the water became crystal clear thanks to these special sponge filters..For me, it took 4 months for the filters to collect a lot of dirt, fish poop, and gunk. You’ll know once the bubbles stop appearing through the tube. But not to worry! All you need to do is remove the sponges, squeeze and rinse out the sponge filters, and reuse them again for another 4 months!.Cons: the suctions don’t stick to the glass 100% well, so keep an eye on that.

Product is not worth for Rs. 495 . Only a small size of plastic and sponge.Value of this product would be hardly Rs.50, but selling for Rs. 495 is cheating.
