Great quality, limited ingredient, and my cats actually like it!
I’ve always loved this brand. And now that one of my cats needs to be on a limited ingredient diet, I’m happy to say that she and all four of my other cats absolutely love this, as well as the dry version.

Inferior product being sold
Update to previous review. I believe Natural Balance offloads the lots that are not right to Amazon to sell. Every time I’ve had to purchase from Amazon the cans of food are mostly water and certainly not pate. Which costs me more money since I have to feed twice the amount so they don’t go hungry. Clearly a manufacturing issue as the cans I get from my local pet store are perfect consistency and less expensive than what Amazon sells it for. That way I’m also supporting a local small business.I bought this product a few years ago but my cats did not like the thick pasty consistency of the food. I found another brand that they really liked so made the switch.Fast forward to this year when that other brand changed their product (while jacking up the price) and rendered it inedible to my cats. I looked for an alternative and saw this product repackaged as “Reserve”. Bought a case and I thank my lucky stars the cats love it and it agrees with them – no more smelly stool from the other product. The case I received does NOT contain canola oil as others have noted and has duck products listed first so perhaps I was fortunate to get the good stuff. I also feed the kibble form of this brand and they like it.It’s expensive, at least $10/case more than what I was paying, but if it helps their digestive system and they enjoy the food then it’s worth it. I spend more on cat food every month than I do on people food.

Not all flavors are created equally
This review is for the Salmon and Green Pea formula. I will start off by informing you that my cat will eat any wet food. I have yet to encounter one that he doesn’t like. After years and years of tummy issues, mostly him vommiting his food out after eating, I took him to the vet. After examing him and running some tests they told me they didn’t believe it was anything serious or life threatening. That I needed to give him a bland diet. So, I did some research and bought him this food. Sure enough he gobbled it down and then something miraculous happened, he stopped vomiting after every meal. I was happy ☺ , until I kept noticing that he was leaving something at the bottom of his bowl. After close inspection I realized they were fish bones. Now, I know cats eat bone but I was concerned about them getting stuck in his throat as they were sharp and not tiny. Sure enough a few days later his meow was gone. Fearing it was the food I bought him a different flavor (I wanted to stick to this company because it was working). After changing the flavor/protein his meow came back in 3 days. Now I’m not sure, as I am not a vet, if it was infact the food that hurt his throat. However, I do know there was bones in it and I know that once I changed it he was back to normal.FINAL SAY: So in all, This food is great for my cats sensitivity it has really been successful in keeping his food in. But I would NOT recommend the Salmon formula because of the fish bones at the bottom of my cats bowl and also because it smelled awful, a smell that if you got it on your hands, would leave your hands smelling fishy all day.

Reliable canning process and very thick
I’ve started paying close attention to how well canned various specialty canned cat foods are.There are a couple other brands (not NB) where the ingredients are great, but the tops of the pop-top cans look kind of half-way secure. Even though they give the reverse suction sound when you open them, you feel like you need to carefully check for it because the tops look like they’re not especially tightly canned. And I’ve received some of a certain popular brand that had no seal – you could push the top down and up – even though the can was closed.With Natural Balance, they look as well-canned as say, Campbell Soup. I’m willing to give up the perfect ingredients for a secure canning process. (edit: These ingredients are very good too. Petco is not reliable as the retailer.)Also, I can add a lot of water to a single can and make several cats happy because the contents are so thick. Apparently it tastes great because they all get so quiet lapping up the food mixed with water.

Pros:* The ingredient list is simple* I believe it is nutritious* My cat looks and acts healthier having not eaten Friskies for over a monthCons:* Inconsistent recipeElaboration:Suspecting food allergies, I bought this for my cat instead of the very expensive vet stuff. She absolutely hates it, but I’m a bit of a jerk and it was necessary that she stick with it, so I forced her. After the case was done, I decided to try the smaller 3 oz can because she wasn’t eating the whole 5.5 oz can each day.It’s totally different. It smells much more appetizing (I’ve had cats for 40 years–you learn these things) and looks obviously different. As soon as I opened the can, I anticipated she’d like it, and she does.So there’s the problem. If I give her two 3 oz cans per day, then I have to spend almost twice as much on cat food because the case of 3 oz cans is almost the same price as the 5.5 oz cans. (Why is that?!) So that’s out, and my allergy test is done, so I’ve decided to stop torturing her with 5.5 oz cans.So I’m now shopping around for a new flavor and/or brand.

Missing items
Product arrived in original package with an opening. Only 22 of 24 cans were present. No reason to return; I just want to be compensated for receiving less than I purchased.

We have 3 cats and they love this food. I would highly recommend this Natural Balance to anyone that has a cat. Unfortunately, the Amazon price has drastically increased hence the 4 stars for “Value for Money”. I am hoping though that the price will drop next month.

One of my cats has thyroid problems and I’ve been trying to get her onto a healthier diet. Doing research on the internet I came across this food and gave it a try. Don’t know why but neither one of my cats wants to eat it. It seems like a good product, can’t figure out why they won’t even give it a try.
