Works just fine in 5 and 10 gallon.
These sponge filters are cheap, tiny, and work exactly as they should. I’ve only been running it for 2 days and you can already see some loose bits of java moss and algae sucked up by the filter.The reviewers saying they won’t sink aren’t patient. That’s normal with sponge filters. Prop it under something like a heater (extra flow around your heater will make it more effective and last longer as well) or fix the tubing in place with some sort of clips, slightly bury it in the subtrate, etc, and it will sink on its own in a few days.Use some scissors to snip out the inside pipe and add the smallest airstone you can find for smaller bubbles, greater filtration, and to make it quieter. Videos on youtube can show you how to add an airstone to a sponge filter. I had to cut down the plastic on the airstone as well, but a $2 imagitarium airstone from petco worked just fine for this. I added an air control valve and a T connector (totalling $6) to my airpump which has just a single valve, and use these on a 5 gallon and a 10 gallon.It’s a sponge filter, super easy to clean, just remove the sponge and squeeze it in some tank water in a cup to remove debris without clouding up your aquarium.

Pros.Perfect for my 20 gallon tank. It supplements a small HOF filter.Floatability. I rinsed these new filters in my tank. One took a few minutes. One sank immediately.Small footprint. Very important in my heavily planted tank.Maintenance. Easy to take apart, rinse, and put back together.I have a dual pump so I use one on each side of the tank. Very quiet.Combining these with a small HOF gives me peace of mind and flexibility.Cons.None.

Good budget sponge filter.
Good size for 20 gallons. Sponge is not too fine or too coarse, though if you want a course sponge this is not it. I was not impressed at first look. It looks like a fine 10 gallon shrimp sponge, but after 3 months I can report it does work. Bubbles are not small, but also not too big. I get pretty good flow with these. I do wish it had a longer tube and 90 degree elbow option, but for that I guess you have to pay more. I like to run two sponges in most tanks, and this makes a great cheap backup.

THIS IS IT ! Loved my sponge filters. ❤️ My review from a recent purchase of these sponge filters; I am happy with my purchase -less noise working as it says it would- don’t need to clean it I’ve heard cause it’s keeping good stuff on the sponges- but wondering if the sellers have these sponges available in smaller sizes for 1-2.5 aquariums- these sponges are big for small tanks – doing the job in my 10 gallon aquarium happy me and my fishies with clean water and a great source of oxygen. I’ve watched a video on YouTube of how to make them work with an air pump AWESOMENESS!Head up! Do not buy the Top Fin internal canister filter it will suck up your fish – many of my newly fish purchases are already lost 😭 those guys know this and keep selling them also in aquarium kits-I’ve found articles online advising that issues and still those guys are selling them 🤔 corruption or what? .

I really did not expect these to work as well as they do. I actually prefer these over the waterfall style filter. NTM, I don’t have to worry about water spillage from clogged filters like you would with the water fall filters. These are only as loud as the air pump you use with them. They don’t take up a lot of room but they do some heavy lifting. I don’t have to worry about fry or shrimp being sucked up and it has the added benefit of the air bubbles.

Amazing filters, these do a great job of sucking up any debris from your tank and also provides air flow. My fish live the bubbles it produces and it keeps my 55 and 75 gallon tanks super clean!

Simple enough design works, but taking the sponge off for a rinse is difficult. Bubbles are large so this is loud.
