The Penn Plax Action Air Shipwreck Aquarium Ornament is an exciting way to aerate your tank. This ornament authentically replicates a sunken ship that has broken into two pieces and lays on the ocean floor waiting to be discovered. Once attached to your air pump this fish tank ornament has moving masts that sway as if they were caught in the water’s current along with a small lifeboat that moves back and forth. Steady streams of small bubbles rise from the holes in the ship for even more visual appeal while providing the necessary oxygen to the tank. Aquarium ornament is made of quality resin and hand painted; measuring 9.5 inches across and 4.7 inches high by 2.5 inches deep. Boat can be displayed as one piece or the parts can be separated and positioned on an angle, over rocks, or anywhere desired in your tank. Air pump, tubing, and gang valve not included.

amazing little ornament but weigh it down, it floats.
I unhooked mine from the air supply but it wasn’t because it didn’t work. It worked very well when I had it going and it looks amazing. Make sure you weight it down because it will float on you in a heartbeat.

Glitter used for jewels, but easy to remove
I bought this little bubbler as an ornament in my 300 gallon fish tank. It’s a cute little addition to my tank and it doesn’t seem to frighten my fish (school of silver dollars who are known to be skittish). I buried it partially in the sand so my giant fish wouldn’t knock it over, and to make the lid open and close, I just played with the amount of air flow going into the ornament. Very easy to adjust it so works properly. My only complaint, and it’s a little one, is that the “jewels” was a bunch of glitter glued onto the platform under the lid. I didn’t want to risk my curious tetras consuming any glitter so I just removed it. The ornament was actually fairly simple to take apart, soak in warm water, and scrub off the glitter with a toothbrush. Took a little time but worth it for this cute addition to my tank!

Need to make sure you have correct air pressure!
I see the other reviews about the clam not opening and closing. AIR PRESSURE is vital to make this thing work. If there is too little air pressure, it won’t open. If there is too much air pressure, it won’t close. You need just the right amount, and it will open and close as it should. You cannot attach an air pump directly to it. You need an air flow control valve/splitter where you can dial the pressure up or down. They are cheap and you can power multiple air features with it. I agree that the clam is rather large. I have a 30 gallon aquarium and its almost too big. Its also very light weight, so getting it to sit on the bottom may be a challenge. I dug down in the gravel a bit and suction-cupped the airline tubing to the inside of the tank to secure it. It works as it should.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! This “decoration” killed my shrimp and made my fish sick. TOXIC DO NOT BUY
I soaked this decor overnight before putting it into my tank. The soak water smelled like plastic but I thought, it’s made for tanks, should be fine! Put it into my tank one evening, and the next morning the entire tank smelled like chemicals and plastic. Some of the glitter had fallen off into the tank too, terrible.I took it out immediately and changed some of the water but it was too late. My fish hasn’t had a normal appetite in a week and as of this morning, 4 of my 7 amano shrimp have died. I keep doing partial water changes but it’s triage at this point. The water still smells faintly of plastic chemicals a week after taking it out. Worried that all of my tank members besides the snails will be dead within a week!I would give this 0/5 stars if I could. do NOT put this toxic crap into your tank under ANY circumstances. The company should reimburse me the cost to completely overhaul my tank and replace all of the lost animals. I think it’s super dishonest to market this as a safe thing to put into an ecosystem like an aquarium and I’m extremely upset. DO NOT GET THIS.

Great idea. Poor execution.
It’s a really cute idea and would be great, if it worked. First of all, the chains are very, very flimsy. They break or fall off continuously. However, the main problem is the treasure chest. It is way, way too light. When air is running, it either turns on its side or floats up. I tried covering parts of it with rocks, but it wouldn’t stay down. I realize this is a relatively cheap accessory, but I would have rather paid more money for a better product. Note: I’m just using the diver alone and floating him in the water.

Animation works well after noting a few details
Nice animation for the tank, works well once you have everything correct. For one, make sure the base of the skeleton will toggle freely back and forth. Sometimes the airline feeding the base is shipped too far in and interferes with the toggle movement. If so, just pull it out a little so the base toggles freely. In the aquarium, it has to be fairly level to allow bubbles to alternate sides for correct movement. Some said it is flimsily built, but it has to be pretty lightweight and loose to operate correctly in water. Also need to be able to adjust air flow to it. Overall it is a good addition to the aquarium.

A Favorite From My Childhood
When I had my very first aquarium as a little girl, this was one of the first decorative items we baought for it. I have always been fascinated by the idea of natural meeting artificial in motion. So for both this reason and nostalgia, I bought another for my “big person’s” aquarium.I am aware of several complaints about this item, but I also know that the user does need to give it some adustments. This time, I actually made a number of modifications for both mechanical and aesthetic purposes. Fisrt, I removed the tiny airline from the bottom and set the mill next to a “wall of bubbles” — just at the edge so that enough bubbles could turn the wheel, but not so that it was overwhemed and would fall over, etc. Second, I used Fluorish Glue* by Seachem to attach the “legs” to a square of 1/16″ Plexiglass (make sure legs are all level — I used an Exacto knife to trim them up.) (*Fluorish Glue is a gel form of cyano-acrylate just like “Super Glue”. If you don’t use the Seachem brand, be sure to still get a GEL, otherwise it is extremely messy.) Third, I glued rounded river pebbles, 1/4-3/4 diameter, onto the Plexiglass base, except where they might interfere with bubbling action. Steps 2 and 3 help keep the rice mill in place by adding weight, and allowing me to “dig it into” the substrate a bit. This also is effective in preventing problems with the natural digging instincts of many bottom fishes. Fourth, I found some old plastice grass-like leaves, trimmed them up, and glued them among the rocks of the base. The first photo is before the modifications (bubbles are difficult to see). Second photo is with modifications, but before returning to aquarium.I hope my notes and suggestions are helpful to anyone else interested in this nifty little treasure! Thanks.

The piece I received does not work. The dog is supposed to move up and down but mine just remains in one place depending on the air flow.
