Benefits of Foot Toys
Foot toys are small toys that birds can easily pick up with their feet and chew with their beak. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and textures that, depending on their design, can offer a variety of enrichment benefits (chewing, foraging, preening an mechanical manipulation) to pet birds.
Toys with destructible components like paper, vine or wood will promote chewing activity essential to beak health.Foraging opportunities can easily be created out of many foot toys that allow for treats to be stuffed or hidden.Any toys that promote movement also offer the benefit of exercise. Foot toys provide essential feet and beak exercise that will help to improve muscle strength, balance, coordination and foot dexterity.Toys with small moveable parts encourage exploration and manipulation by beaks and tongues.
Foot toys are great for playing inside and outside the cage. Consider creating a “toy chest” in the bottom of your bird’s cage to contain a variety of foot toys. While spending time with your bird, they make great lap toys to keep them entertained and many birds enjoying playing with foot toys while laying on their backs or by tossing and chasing them.
Foot toys are especially great for introducing toys with various textures and colors to young birds. Playtime is part of the learning process in which birds start to identify textures, colors, shapes, and it also helps to develop coordination and dexterity. Exposure to a wide variety of objects at a young age helps to create a more confident, less fearful bird.

Playthings with a Purpose!
Instinctively, pet birds are still very much like their wild counterparts. Play is a natural behavior for parrots. Wild parrots have been observed engaging in several different kinds of play including object play, balancing games, play that involves movement, acoustic play and social play with other birds like “chase me” or pretend fighting.
However, in captivity, opportunities to participate in natural activities have been reduced to a bare minimum leaving a lot of “free time” often leading to boredom which in turn has been shown to result in the development of behavioral, mental, and physical health problems.
Providing enrichment in the form of purposely designed bird toys can alleviate boredom. Bird toys are more than mere playthings when it comes to your bird! Providing pet birds with opportunities to chew, forage, preen and explore is critical to their well-being.

Bird Toy Types and Benefits
Foraging toys – Toys in which treats can be hidden, skewered and or imbedded to encourage movement and exploration.Destructible toys – Chewing is a major activity in the wild and essential to maintaining beak health.Exercise toys – Swings and Bungees challenge a bird’s balancing skills while ladders and ropes promote legwork and increase climbing activity.Comfort toys – Pet birds, especially when they are alone, like to snuggle up to or crawl into something soft and cuddly. Tents and snuggle toys help to alleviate their stress and provide birds with a sense of security.Preening toys – Materials like seagrass and crinkle paper provide an excellent outlet for birds to satisfy their desire to preen and to discourage feather picking and mutilation.Mechanical toys – Birds are very intelligent creatures, and many enjoy untying knots, undoing nuts and bolts and exploring and manipulating toy parts.

Cassie –
A birds favorite!
My conures favorite toys! Great size, & material is durable for chewing and throwing. Will definitely buy more.
Cindy –
Supreme fun for an old double-yellow headed parrot who loves bells and jingly noises!!!
Parrot (yes, his name is Parrot…long story) loves bells and jingly noises. He loves to use his feet to jingle the balls in these toys while oohing and aahing! You can see the one where he decided to remove the jingle and set it to the side to play with later. Although these don’t last long – sometimes a couple weeks, sometimes a couple days – his utter enjoyment with them is immeasurable! And for a 47-year-old parrot, I say Parrot gets what Parrot wants! We are on our second order of four:-)
Nancy Haney –
Great foot toys!
These are inexpensive and wonderful foot toys for our conures! They love them. They knock them off the top level and go and bring them back.. it’s cute to watch. They can destroy them though.. lucky they are not costly!
TiffyBelle89 –
Decent
Not bad for the price, but one of the four balls arrived without a bell inside.

My bird love it
C. Darden –
Green cheek Conure loves this toy
My little Conure/ Birdie “Taco” loves this these toys recommend
Hollis Provins –
Distructable
Nice enough but our conure was able to chip them soon after presenting them and we had to pull them from her cage.
Jas –
Durable and Entertaining
My 2 parakeets and splayed leg lovebird enjoy their noisy balls. I bought these over 4 months ago and they are holding up well. I tend to put strips of newspaper in the balls to give my birds more of an entertainment, they seem to enjoy it. My lovebird prefers sleeping at the bottom of her cage while chewing on the strips of newspaper.
Elena –
Our green cheek conure loves these balls, and I like them because they are far more long-lasting than the lattice ones. He plays with them a lot and of course the rattle bell is a bonus. I would like to find more small foot and rattle toys like this.
Tamika –
The bell is very loud but the ball itself is sturdy
Young starving student –
Excellent toy ! My budgie just looooves to push them around and throw them on the ground. They’re quite durable but my budgie broke the bell inside when she threw it down the stairs.
J Taylor –
Don’t know if my boy loves these or hates them, but he does throw them around a whole bunch. He likes to drop them from the top of his cage to the bottom. Over and over and over. They are very durable. Bought two sets. Will use the second set for when he’s out of the cage.
Natalie –
Whilst Mojo absolutely loved playing with these balls, he chewed through the plastic after just a couple of days. Had to remove them from him so as to not swallow any small pieces. Definitely not suitable for even small parrots.
